The Moore Family Foundation Artist Residency Program offers artists, writers, technologists, and creative practitioners a rare opportunity to step away from daily demands and focus deeply on their work in a quiet, private setting.

The residency is located on a private compound in Vaiano, a frazione of the comune of Castiglione del Lago in the Province of Perugia, Umbria, in central Italy. Set among rolling hills, olive groves, vineyards, and open views, the property offers a setting shaped by stillness, landscape, and the long cultural history of the region.

Each year, the program invites four to six residents for individual three- to four-week stays. Residents are scheduled one at a time, allowing each participant privacy, quiet, and dedicated access to the residency environment. The compound becomes a temporary retreat: a place to think, work, read, write, make, experiment, and reconnect with the deeper rhythms of creative practice.

Residents stay in private living quarters and have access to studio and work spaces. The surrounding land is part of the experience, with gardens, footpaths, and open vistas that support slow thinking and sustained reflection. The residency welcomes a wide range of disciplines, including visual art, digital media, robotics, writing, performance, music, design, and hybrid practices.

The program is intentionally unstructured. There are no required deliverables, exhibitions, lectures, or public presentations. Residents are invited to use the time in whatever way best serves their practice, whether that means beginning a new body of work, completing an existing project, conducting research, experimenting with unfamiliar materials, or simply creating space for thought.

Nearby towns, historic sites, and cultural centers provide context and inspiration, while the privacy of the compound allows residents to work without interruption. The residency is designed for artists and practitioners who would benefit from solitude, trust, autonomy, and meaningful time away from the noise of everyday life.
